Villa Oslo

Norwegian Skapa has carried out a complete transformation of a 1920s villa in Oslo. In close collaboration with the client, the architecture office took on the task of rebuilding and restoring the atmosphere and rediscovering the hidden qualities of the existing house.

With a clear focus on living qualities and a homely feeling guiding the design and building process, Skapa aimed to achieve a natural, straightforward feel throughout the house in a dialogue between the existing 1920s house and a modern lifestyle, without compromising on the historical qualities.

That goal was achieved by mixing classic room proportions with surprising details to enhance the qualities of the rooms and spatial transitions.

A selection of high-quality materials, colours and details has revitalized the house, creating the basis for another hundred years of life and memories. That ambition also guided the choice of solid Dinesen Douglas planks for the flooring.

The Douglas planks continue in the magnificent staircase that connects the levels of the house, all the way from the basement to the attic. The staircase was designed in collaboration with Kitchen & Room, and with its beautiful curves and architectural lines it functions as a piece of art in itself.

The house also includes a bespoke kitchen by Garde Hvalsøe made with Dinesen HeartOak planks.
