The London-based architecture and design studio the Collaborative Office of Research and Design (CORD) has carried out a complete interior refurbishment of this exclusive apartment in Paddington, West London. The apartment is situated in a beautiful, Grade II listed property dating from ca. 1855. The exterior architecture has a classic aristocratic, ornamented appearance, while the interior has been renovated from floor to ceiling. In CORD’s redesign, the apartment now appears reborn with contributions from art and innovative architecture.

The elegant 19th-century Victorian villa stands proud in London’s Maida Vale district, a prime residential area in the northern part of Paddington known for its theatres, winding canal and cosy riverside restaurants and pubs.
At a later point in its history, the villa was converted into three separate dwellings, of which this apartment is one. The renovation process involved a complete reconstruction of the interior, which was stripped down almost to the bare shell of the house - a project that called for the hands of a skilful architect.
CORD recreated the apartment’s original, highly ornamented interior with modern artistic elements and decorative plaster mouldings and ceiling roses. A single vaulted corridor that suggests the dwelling’s original architectural style and status was carefully restored.
Throughout the apartment, CORD has used light colour notes, as manifested in the bathroom’s off-white porcelain tiling, gentle wall colours and solid Dinesen Douglas plank floors.
