Holiday house in the Finnish nature

In a scenic setting overlooking a lake and encircled by birch trees, a family of seven has built their holiday cottage. The family wanted a place where they could be one with nature, both summer and winter. When they found this scenic site on Päijänne, Finland’s second- largest lake, they were able to make the dream come true.

The house provides a perfect setting for active holidays. It is divided into two sections, which are elegantly tied together by a glass corridor that opens onto a large patio. With a family of seven and frequent overnight guests, sleeping places were a top priority. In total, the place offers twelve regular sleeping places as well as several bathrooms and a sauna.

The large living room, which has a spectacular view and a fireplace, is the natural heart of the house. Another popular place for the family to relax together is the separately located sauna, which has a front-row view of the lake.

In designing the house, the owners wanted to draw nature in and celebrate the Nordic look. Therefore, wood is used as the main material, and the interior is strictly Finnish or Danish. The owners chose long, light Dinesen Douglas planks as the underlying base for the interior design. The planks are used as flooring throughout as well as in furniture and as wall cladding.
