Riddargatan

Renovation of an attic apartment in the elegant Stockholm district Östermalm.

The clients of this elegant apartment wanted the kitchen, dining room and living room to form the core of the new apartment, with generous areas for cooking, work, relaxation, and socializing.

The central living area, without interior walls, is organized around two pieces of free-standing furniture. Here you will find the entrance, kitchen, dining area, and living room. All other rooms in the apartment are connected to this area.

The material palette is limited to soft light gray walls and a white oiled Dinesen Ash herringbone flooring in large dimensions that brings a dynamic structure and a decorative expression. With its rich tactile properties and wavy grain, Dinesen Ash stimulates and supports a vibrant interior expression.

All custom-made furniture is made of walnut, and worktops and bathrooms are made of Carrara marble.

The high quality of the planks reflects the character of this classic natural material, whose distinctive expression brings a sensuous and personal atmosphere to any space, and their dynamic variation makes it easy to create a personal feel.

“We knew early on, like in most of our interior projects, that the floor is a very significant part of the design. The floor forms the basis of the project and is laid in every room without thresholds. Also, the existing construction of the flooring was already in concrete, so the conditions for using Dinesen were perfect.

In designing the project, and assembling a simple, yet elegant material palette - walnut and Carrara marble was decided early on. We were hesitating between Douglas and Ash wood, which both complement walnut very well. Finally, we decided on Ash, since the client wanted a floor that was a bit more resistant, and less sensitive to time. The treatment chosen was Loba Impact Oil, with a white pigment (chalk). It's a natural oil, that gives the floor a feeling of being untreated, but still very resistant.”
