By the west coast in northern Germany, close to the Danish border, you will find the small city Husum, and located across from the old Husum Castle, that served as a retreat for the Danish royal family in the 18th and 19th century, is a beautiful home created by the design and architecture duo TIMMTIMM.

Silja Timm and her husband Malte Timm, the owners of TIMMTIMM, have realised their idea of a modern living space for their family home, where they live with their daughter. The duo wanted to build their home in the historic city centre of Husum instead of in a newly constructed area in the suburbs.

In the drawing process, the couple tried working with various shapes, but kept coming back to the archetypal house shape but with a modern twist. The building appears self-confident while simultaneously blending into the historical and classic neighbourhood. The building has classic materials that are common to the area such as veneer stone. It has an open roof truss, which makes the rooms very light.

The duo created the bench and dinner table themselves. Both made of Dinesen Douglas planks as they liked the thought of continuing the look of the floor throughout the house. The main idea behind the table was to have a large seating area for family gatherings.

A solid wooden floor by Dinesen can be found in the living room as well as in all the bedrooms. The light Dinesen Douglas floors were the couple’s first choice and they quickly became an integral part of the vision for their home.
