On a hillside high above Stavanger lies a unique house. The house opens to the north and very appropriately bears the name Northface. The house dates back to 1969 but has undergone extensive renovation and remodelling.

Together with the owners, Element Arkitekter has created a modern and contemporary three-storey home with a clearly Nordic style in interior design and architecture. The top floor is a completely new and more open construction that extends three metres out from the rest of the building, adding to the unique architectural character of the house.
Both in the interior and the exterior, solid wood has been used as the main material. All the floors in the house are Dinesen Douglas. The long, wide planks accentuate the architecture and the simple and open design. From the living room and kitchen on the new top floor, a ten metre-long, north-facing glass wall offers an exquisite panorama view of the fiord, Byfjorden, and the city of Stavanger against the distant mountains.
A custom-designed staircase leads down to the ground floor. The steps are made of Dinesen Douglas. Additional wood was supplied by a local sawmill. Among other functions, the ground floor features a library, an office and a bedroom with a walk-in-closet.
The bedroom also has north-facing windows from floor to ceiling, and the owners often wake up to the beautiful sight of huge cruise ships gliding silently past on the North Sea.
